To select Melsanthis of Sabarimala, Malikappuram temples

Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Tuesday allowed the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to include Tantri Kadararu Rajeevaru on the committee for selecting the Melsanthis of Sabarimala and Malikappuram temples.

The Bench of Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice A.K. Basheer granted permission to the TDB’s decision to induct Kadararu Rajeevaru on the committee for this year in view of peculiar circumstances.

The selection committee consisted of senior Tantri Kandararu Maheswararu, TDB president C.K. Guptan and members P. Narayanan and Sumathykutty Amma. As per the new system, the three-member committee will have the oldest member of the Thazhamon Illom as its chairman and two Tantris nominated by the board. Earlier, the selection committee comprised the TDB president, the two members, the Devaswom commissioner and the temple Tantri. The Bench passed the order on a petition filed by the TDB seeking permission for inclusion of Kadararu Rajeevaru in the committee. The selection committee will interview the candidates on October 10, 11 and 12. Nine persons will be short-listed for each post. The final selection is on October 18.

Protection

Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishan on Tuesday directed the Thrissur District Collector and the Superintendent of Police to ensure that proper protection was given to geologist T.K. Ramakrishna and his other staff.

The court passed the direction on an affidavit filed by him in response to a petition complaining about the failure of the geologist to issue permits for excavating sand from paddy fields in the district.

The petition was filed by two brick kiln owners. In the affidavit , he said that when he withdrew the ban order on excavating sand following court directions, a group under the leadership of Purapookara panchayat members attacked and damaged the offices of the geologist.
