Chennai: The Indian players figuring in the German hockey league continue to hog the limelight, but none more than drag-flicker Sandeep Singh. The gangling Sandeep struck three goals to help his club, TG Frankenthal turn a 0-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory over HTC Stuttgarter Kickers, the European Club champion in 2006. TG Frankenthal is now fourth in the table and may well reach the play-off for the first time. Sandeep leads the scorers’ tally with 10 goals in six matches. The first goal for HTC Stuttgarter was scored by Deepak Thakur. Tushar Khandekar scored his first goal for Black and White Neuss in a thrilling match against league leader Crefelder HTC. At the end they drew 5-5, and Crefeld won the penalty stroke competition, for an extra point. This is a new rule. In the second division North league, William Xalco and Rajpal Singh representing Marienburger HC (Cologne) lost 2-5 to the big favourite Red and White Cologne, featuring world champion players, Christopher Zeller, Philipp Zeller, Tibor Weibenborn and Timo Wess. Both however scored, when Marienburg won 3-2 on Saturday against RTHC Leverkusen. Three goals by Vakhaliga Raghunath for Blue and White Cologne against Club Raffelberg Duisburg (which had Prabodh Tirkey and Vivek Gupta in its ranks), helped the team win 5-4. Prabhjot on songVery impressive was the performance of Prabhjot Singh — who scored seven goals at the weekend — and Sardar Singh (3) for Rheydter SV. The team won 4-3 against Hannover 78 (one goal by Sardar, two by Prabhjot) and won 10-5 against Rissener SV Hamburg (five goals from Prabhjot and two from Sardar). It was not a good Saturday for Arjun Halappa and the Muenchner SC (demoted from first division league) against newcomer Blue and White Berlin (promoted from third division league). Halappa scored for a 1 -0 lead, but his side lost 1-3. On Sunday, Muenchner SC won 5-4 against Zehlendorfer Wespen. Ignace Tirkey scored two goals, while Halappa netted one.
