Big win for NMCC

Namakkal: Nithya Memorial CC (Muthugapatti) scored a 197-run win over Royal CC (Periyamanali) in the Canara Bank-DCAN ‘B’ division league at the Bharath Polytechnic grounds recently.

Palanivel (five for 20) and Kannan (four for 17) did the damage for Royal CC.

The scores: Sapthagiri CC (Chithalanthur) 164 in 39.1 overs lost to Venkitaraman MCC (SPB Colony) 168 for five in 33.2 overs (R. Murthy 41 n.o.).

Sachin CC 97 in 19.3 overs (Vijayakumar four for 8) lost to Masters CC (Tiruchengodu) 99 for one in 15.3 overs (Maiganamurthy 43).

Nithya Memorial CC (Muthugapatti) 264 for nine in 35 overs (Senthil 74, Aravind 48) bt Royal CC (Periyamanali) 67 in 17.4 overs (Palanivel five for 20, Kannan four for 17).

Vaishnav lifts title

At Tirupur, M. Vaishnav of Infant Jesus School topped the table to emerge the under-8 champion in the Coimbatore district-level chess tournament at the Century Foundation Nursery and Primary School recently.

Other winners: U-10: T. Aravindaswami (VSS MS); U-14: Vinith (Oxford Modern); U-17: G. Dinesh Sundar (St. Joseph’s). ;

XI Stars moves up

At Udhagamandalam, M. Kuttan struck in the 42nd minute to help XI Stars Sports Club score a solitary goal win over Harvesters NYC in the NDFA-Sterling Biotech first division football league at the HADP Open Air Stadium here on Tuesday.

The results: BMSC 0 drew with Vivekananda SC 0.
