New postal division under consideration

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Postal authorities are mulling over the formation of the Chennai (west) division to focus attention on the quality of services in the suburbs such as Avadi and Ambattur.

At present, the Chennai Municipal Corporation is broadly served by three divisions – north, south and central.

Besides, the Tambaram division covers operations not only in the southern suburbs but also in the northern and the western suburbs. This division covers Vandalur, Avadi, Ambattur, Ponneri and Minjur, according to T. Paneerselvam, Postmaster General (Chennai City Region). This causes big stress on the officials in charge of the Tambaram division.

As part of the proposal, Avadi and Ambattur will be brought under the Chennai (west) division. The authorities are also thinking of restructuring the south division.
