Known spenders and non-spenders

The Malayali has no hesitation to pay high rates of toll in Coimbatore; but when the same person crosses over to Kerala, the attitude is different. “Why should I pay? This is my land; my father and grandfather had lived here…,” will be the argument.

This interesting observation was made by K. Jose Cyriac, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), government of Kerala, at a workshop organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry here.

He went on to observe that Keralites do not mind spending money on something of their own choice.

A recent survey on spending habits revealed that BPL families in Kerala were spending on after-shave lotion, Mr. Cyriac told an amused audience.
