Voicing estate workers’ woes

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Janata Dal State president M.P. Veerendrakumar has urged the Central and State governments to alleviate the livelihood problems faced by thousands of plantation workers across the State.

He was speaking after inaugurating a hunger strike organised by the district committee of the Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) in front of the Secretariat to highlight the plight of the employees of the Mahavir Plantations at Bonacaud.

Mr. Veerendrakumar urged the government to take over the estate and provide emergency relief for the workers.

Addressing the gathering, CMP leader M.V. Raghavan said the LDF had failed to honour its commitment to address the problems of plantation workers. Social activist B.R.P.Bhaskar spoke.
