HYDERABAD: Chairman of Apollo Hospitals group Prathap C. Reddy on Tuesday urged the Government to confer infrastructure status to health sector saying that it would boost investments.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a CII conclave on ‘Healthcare services: Next practices & mantras for survival’ here, he said that health summit being organised by the CII at New Delhi on November 12 and 13 would discuss important issues relating to increasing the bed strength as per World Health Organisation standards, developing trained healthcare professionals, undertaking research and providing universal insurance coverage.
Dr. Reddy, who is also chairman, CII’s national committee on healthcare, said there was also a need to increase the hospital bed strength by 80,000 each year in the next five years to implement World Health Organisation recommendations of one bed for every 600 people. The current bed strength ratio in Andhra Pradesh was 1:1,100, while it was 1: 1,400 in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
