CHENNAI: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has summoned an instructor and a helper of an anganwadi centre in Tiruvallur to appeal before the Commission on October 30 in connection with the alleged branding of a two-year child a few days ago.
A Bench of the Commission, comprising chairperson Justice A.S. Venkatachalamoorthy and members Justice S. Thangaraj, K. Mariappan and M. Paramasivam, took suo motu cognisance of a press report about the incident.
According to the report, Nithyasree of Vembuliamman Temple Street used to go to the anganwadi daily. On October 3, she returned home crying.
Her parents were shocked to see burn injuries on her face and leg.
The Bench ordered issue of summons to Indira, the instructor, and Mallika, the helper.
