KSITM to tie up with Keltron

KOCHI: In a major development, which is expected to boost employment generation in the State in the fast-growing information technology sector, the Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) is teaming up with Keltron for providing training in medical transcription (MT) through Akshaya centres.

Psychometric Profiling (guidance on what type of job is most compatible for one’s personality) of students from Classes IX to XII is also part of the venture. KSITM Director Saurabh Jain and Keltron Managing Director M. Narayanan will sign the agreement in this regard in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

In the first phase, the project will be implemented in Malappuram followed by Kannur, V.R. Ajith Kumar, Director, Akshaya Project, said. This is considering the fact that both these districts are fully e-literate already. Gradually, the project will be expanded to other districts, Mr. Kumar said.

A certificate course in MT lasting six months will be offered through Akshaya centres. Each centre will train two batches of 10 trainees during the six-month-period.

Keltron will provide necessary technical support and course materials. It will impart training to a chosen person from each Akshaya centre for running the course.

Twenty centres have been identified for MT training and psychometric profiling in the first year. Each Akshaya centre will have to pay Rs.15,000 as licence fee to Keltron for running the course in the first year. It will be Rs.500 per each student from the second year. The course fee charged from the trainee is Rs.12,000, which will be shared by the Akshaya entrepreneur and Keltron in the ratio of 65:35. Course fee for psychometric profiling is Rs.300 per student; of which the entrepreneur will get Rs.90 while Keltron will have Rs.210.

There will a continuous evaluation of the trainees by means of assignments and class tests. Certificates will be issued on clearing the final examination, Akshaya sources said.
