Electronic poll material to be screened
Special Correspondent
GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat State Election Commission has appointed a three-member committee to screen all electronic material, including CDs and DVDs, before they can be used by political parties or their candidates for the coming Assembly elections.
Chief Electoral Officer V.K. Babbar said the committee would be headed by Additional Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Manek and include Gandhinagar district Collector Sonal Misra and chief of Doordarshan News, Ahmedabad, Dhiraj Kakadia.
All CDs, DVDs and such other electronic materials must be cleared by the committee before they could be used in the elections.
The step was taken apparently because of the controversial speeches made by Chief Minister Narendra Modi during electioneering in 2002. The Opposition parties had complained that he was following the same trend.
