Dharmendra and Donaldo create new meet records

ON A HIGH: Kavya Muthanna from Karnataka who won the under-20 girls’ high jump.

VIJAYAWADA: Uttar Pradesh’s Dharmendra Kumar Patel hurled the javelin to 62.14m setting a new meet record in the under-16 event on the inaugural day of the three-day 19th junior National inter-zonal athletic championship at Acharya Nagarjuna University campus on Tuesday.

Tamil Nadu’s P. Donaldo hauled 2269 points in the under-14 boys’ triathlon ‘C’ final for a new meet record.

Karnataka’s Kavya Muthanna cleared 1.71 metres to clinch the high jump honours in the under-20 girls’ event.

The Athletic Federation of India (AFI), keen to curb the use of banned drugs, has deputed a team of officials to conduct test on the athletes. The junior contingent to take part in the two-day SAF athletic meet to be held at Colombo (Sri Lanka) on November 29 and 30 will be selected at the end of this meet.
