Anantapur
ANANTAPUR: Speakers at a meeting organised by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) here on Tuesday on the income from mining activity in the district urged the State Government to spend the income generated from the activity entirely on the development of the district. Backward area District president of TDP U. Hanumantharaya Chowdary, district secretary of CPI M.V. Ramana, district secretary of CPI (M) G. Obulakonda Reddy, R. Ranga of TDP legal cell and others spoke at the meeting. Income from the mining activity in the district should be spent for district development alone as Anantapur was one of most backward areas, they felt. ‘Illegal activity’They alleged that the mining activity of Obulapuram Mining Company in the district was illegal and was being carried out against the norms. They suggested that new industries be set up with the income being generated from the mining to overcome the unemployment problem. Most of the youth were turning to politics and factional feuds due to lack of employment, they observed. Industrial growth would definitely keep the youth away from feuds and help the district make rapid progress in all spheres.
