Full STReNGTH: Many women gathered for a meeting of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at Dharmavaram on Wednesday. DHARMAVARAM: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurated the biggest housing colony constructed so far under the Indiramma scheme here on Wednesday. He assured the people that all necessary help would be extended to Anantapur district to stop the process of desertification. Encouraged by a huge turnout of public, including a large number of women for the public meeting, he stated that 1.36 lakh women in the district would be given LPG connections under Deepam scheme this year. About 40,000 high-yield milch animals would also be given with subsidy to improve their income generation. Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled a pylon topped with the bust of Indira Gandhi in the housing colony as a mark of inauguration of the new habitation. In all, about 2,000 houses sanctioned under the first phase of Indiramma scheme were under different stages of completion in the colony on the Pyadindi road. Power and waterAnother 1,500 houses sanctioned under the second phase of the scheme would also be constructed in the colony to make it the biggest habitat created under Indiramma scheme in the State, the Chief Minister stated. Electricity, water supply and internal roads had already been provided in the colony. Dr. Reddy handed over a cheque worth Rs. 108.17 crore to the zilla samakhya functionaries. The Chief Minister said he was emboldened by the blessings of the poor . Speaking at the meeting, Ministers Botcha Satyanarayana, N. Raghuveera Reddy and J.C. Diwakar Reddy urged the people to bless the Chief Minister to serve them in the present capacity throughout his life. Zilla Parishad chairperson T. Kavitha, MPs A. Venkatarami Reddy and G. Nizamuddin, MLAs B. Narayana Reddy, S. Sailajanath, N. Neelavathi, K. Mohan Reddy and J. Ramaiah, MLCs M. Laxmidevamma, Y. Sivarami Reddy and G. Thippesway participated. Seeking regularisation Sri Sathya Sai Water Supply Project District Workers’ Trade Union has requested Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to regularise the jobs of about 500 workers in the project working on contract basis. In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister during his visit to Dharmavaram on Wednesday union leaders S. Sharfuddin, K. Upendra Kumar, B. Sudhakar Raju and others explained that the water project had been quenching the thirst of people in about 800 villages in the district for about 12 years now.
