BJD going strong in Nowrangpur

Correspondent

KORAPUT: The political situation in Nowrangpur district is turning favourable to the ruling BJD.

The growing divide between members of the Congress came to the fore during the recent visit of the Assembly Standing Committee to the district.

Division in Congress

A section in the party led a team to highlight the irregularities in road construction work between Nowrangpur and Mahulpadar.

The committee then passed objectionable remarks on the quality of the works.

Though the work was assigned to OCC, a leading construction company in the State, it was carried out by a contractor who had close association with a section in the district Congress. This led to allegations and counter allegations.

Planned approach

The ruling BJD, on the other hand, seems to be gaining ground in a planned way under the guidance of the party’s State general secretary Bhaskar Rao.

The recent inclusion of firebrand leaders from the region like Jayadev Parida and Jagabandhu Majhi had given more strength to the party in recent times, political observers feel.

With speculation of early elections, the BJD appeared to be in a more comfortable position.
