Tea shop owners told not to resort to such illegal practices
NAMAKKAL: In pursuant of their social obligation, the policemen from the Social Justice and Human Rights (SJ and HR) wing organised a ‘Tea for social justice,’ to eradicate the reported prevalence of double tumbler system in tea shops at Alampatti village in Athanur block here on Tuesday.

A team of police personnel, villages Dalit president A. Madheswaran, representatives from Dalits and caste Hindus shared the same bench at an eatery where all of them were served tea in same type of tumblers. The DSP asked the people not to encourage any form of untouchability in their village panchayat.
Against untouchability
The policemen also campaigned against the untouchability in the village by convening meetings in street corners. The tea shop owners, who allegedly maintained two tumblers, one for Dalits and another for caste Hindus, were told not to resort to such illegal practice in future. The villagers assured the policemen that they would never resort to such practices of social inequality.
Councillors and representatives from Viduthalai Siruthaigal Katchi took part in the event.
