PALAKKAD: The ICFAI National College-Rotary Life Line Team for voluntary blood donation in the district was inaugurated by K.K. Divakaran, M.L.A, at Olavakkode here on Wednesday. The Life Line team of blood donors consists of students from various professional colleges and other volunteers who will be available for donating blood. A directory of the donors was prepared and a website also launched for the purpose. The donors are given identity cards. The doctors at the government and private hospitals can contact the Life Line team for getting blood on emergency. The Blood Bank in the District Hospital here will inform the Life Line Team about their requirement of blood in various groups. Mr. Divakaran said that large number of people died as a result of bleeding in accident and in many other related cases. The main reason for it is the non-availability of blood at short notice in the hospitals to meet the emergency. If donors are available on a short notice many lives could be saved by providing blood at the critical time to the victims, he said. The meeting was presided over by Dr. N.G. Nair, president, Rotary Club of Palakkad.
