BANGALORE: The Medico-Pastoral Association, in coordination with the Indian Psychiatric Society’s Karnataka Branch and Montfort College observed World Mental Health Day on Wednesday. They organised a seminar on “Mental Health in a Changing World: The Impact of Culture and Diversity,” this year’s theme for World Mental Health Day. In his keynote address, Ravi Shankar Rao, consultant psychiatrist, saidthere was a need to create awareness on the influence of culture on the many aspects of mental health. This year’s theme emphasised the critical role that cultural awareness plays in the planning and delivery of effective mental health, he said. Students from Montfort College, Jyothi Nivas College and Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College participated in a panel discussion on this year’s theme for World Mental Health Day. Chairman of the Programme Therapy Committee of Medico-Pastoral Association Divya Paul said that the seminar aimed at reflecting and responding to the new challenges posed by the rapid pace of globalisation. In line with this year’s theme, students of Montfort College will organise an international conference on “Building bridges for wellness through counselling and psychotherapy” in January next.
