This Day That Age
Prime Minister Nehru on his visit to Hiroshima on October 9 pledged to devote himself to the ultimate abolition of all nuclear weapons. “We must strive”, he told the 400,000 people of the new city that is re-born out of the atom-devastated Hiroshima, “towards the goal of abolition of nuclear devices and disarmament and through mutual trust in each other, we must realise One World.” Hiroshima went all out to give Mr. Nehru the most enthusiastic welcome during his tour of Japan. A cheering crowd of over 30,000 gave him the warmest reception ever accorded to anybody by Hiroshima as he arrived in the city early this afternoon on what he described as a “pilgrimage”.
