TDCA election: malpractices alleged

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two complaints seeking an inquiry with regard to the alleged malpractices in the Thiruvananthapuram District Cricket Association (TDCA) election held on May 24 last has been filed with the Kerala Cricket Association.

The complaints are significant as it was at this election that the former BCCI secretary, S.K. Nair, was surprisingly defeated as he sought re-election as the TDCA’s representative to the KCA, thus also forcing him to resign as the KCA president on May 25.

In their complaint to the KCA, the former TDCA vice-presidents, K. Anil Kumar and S.B. Salim Kumar have said that the authorisation letters issued by the secretaries of as many as six clubs were forged, thus resulting in their defeat as TDCA vice-president and joint secretary respectively by a narrow margin.

Anil Kumar was unable to retain his post by three votes and Salim Kumar, who sought election as joint secretary, lost by two votes.

Basing their contention on how the election was manipulated, the complaints further say that the authorisation letter issued by Friends CC is a good example, as the last-minute change of its representative, effected by the club on May 20 bears a totally different signature of the club secretary, K.S. Vijayakumar, when compared with the earlier authorisation issued by the same person on April 30.

“It is also found that K.S. Vijayakumar who is said to be secretary of Friends CC has neither attended any meeting of the TDCA so far nor has he put signature on any paper with regard to the annual general body of the Association. Nobody knows whether such a person is there or it is a fictitious name.”

Likewise, the complaint further alleges that the secretary of the Chasers ‘B’ club, B.V. Renjith, who has been working in Dubai for the last three years, had left India after leave in the last week of February 2007. “It is very obvious that his signature has been forged by someone else. The letter of the club is dated April 28.”

The other clubs, whose authorisations are alleged to have been forged, named in the complaints are Omega CC, Trivandrum CC, Tiscot CC and Anugraha CC. “With these six cases being fake, illegal and manipulated authorisations, it is very clear that the majority achieved by the present TDCA executive committee is not a genuine one, particularly when it is identified that all these representatives were either candidates or ‘proposers’ for the same panel,” the complaint says. The complainants have asked the KCA president, T.R. Balakrishnan, to order an inquiry into the issue witout forcing them to resort to any other means, including legal measures, to redress their grievances.
