This is what the Jute Fair, exhibition cum sale of jute diversified products opened at Institution of Engineers (India), Khairatabad, on Wednesday has proved. A variety of jute handicrafts, decorative pieces, interiors, utilitarian products made of the ‘golden fibre’ on display won instant appreciation from the Chief Guest Rajeshwar Tiwari, Member Secretary, APPCB to the general visitors and generated sales too. Facilitating marketingThe Jute Fair with the theme ‘Say yes to jute’ organised under the aegis of Jute Manufacturers Development Council to facilitate better marketing and awareness about jute products, has 27 units from Kolkata, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Warangal. Be it jute handicrafts, wall hangings, jute fabrics, gift and novelties, dhurries from Warangal, carry bags, foot wear or trendy and novel jute jewellery. Each and every category has innumerable designs to choose from and in the affordable price range. Also on the display are soft luggage, jute chairs, hammocks, jute curtains, cushion covers, hand bags embellished with zari and embroidery. Promoting productsMr. Rajesh Tiwari emphasised the need to promote jute products as they were bio-degradable and provide immense employment potential. Of 77 jute mills in the country, those in traditional centres like Kolkata had established themselves well. Andhra Pradesh has seven jute mills and 18 jute twine mills and over all 2.5 lakh workers were employed in the jute sector apart from jute entrepreneurs promoting jute products, he said. JMDC Hyderabad Regional Office, Market Promotion Officer, B.
