MEET OF TALENTS: Kartar Singh, Deputy Director, British Council, South India, Chennai, addressing students at the inauguration of ‘Case Analysis and Presentation’ at the Hindusthan College of Arts and Science in the city on Wednesday. — COIMBATORE: Students should look forward to opportunities with a global mindset. This is required not only to work in companies abroad, but also in Indian companies, Kartar Singh, Deputy Director, British Council, South India, Chennai, said here on Wednesday. Skill gapsInaugurating a national talent meet, “Case Analysis and Presentation”, at the Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, that was organised by the Postgraduate Department of Commerce and International Business, Mr. Singh exhorted the students to be aware of the demographical changes taking place and the consequent skill gaps thereof. In addition to communication skills, he advised them to concentrate on social adjustability skills that were required to work in a global company. “The British Council is looking for opportunities to tie up with smaller cities, especially Coimbatore, where entrepreneurial skill is at its peak. The business community is giving back to the community in the form of education. We are exploring opportunities in education to form partnerships between educational institutions here. Only private sector participation can increase the number going in for higher education”, he said. AchievementsJose Abraham, Chairman and Managing Director, Fortune Wealth Management Company Private Limited, said that a burning desire to excel should form the basis for one’s thinking. “An ordinary person can make extraordinary achievements; what is required is positive thinking and attitude”. “Even if you are reasonably good, there are people waiting to grab you even before you step out of college. In such a scenario, you should be careful about what companies expect out of you. OptimismAn ability to overcome negative attitude is very important to succeed. In pervading pessimism it is optimism that will make you succeed and reach the skies”, Mr. Abraham said. HonestyHe asserted that it was virtues like dependability, honesty, punctuality and integrity that took one to heights. R.S. Ramaswamy, Principal, and Nanjan Balu, Director of the Department, spoke.
