Going ballistic: Mahila Congress president and MLC Ganga Bhavani confronting TDP spokesperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari at her residence in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

HYDERABAD: The war of words between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Congress leaders took a turn for the worse, when irate Mahila Congress workers laid a siege to the house of TDP spokesperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari.

They sought an unconditional apology for her alleged derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Mahila Congress workers led by its president and MLC Ganga Bhavani staged a demonstration outside the Assembly on Wednesday and burnt an effigy of Ms. Rajakumari.

The protestors then gatecrashed into My Home Apartments at Masab Tank, where Ms. Rajakumari resides.

Notwithstanding police presence, Mahila Congress workers led by Ranga Reddy district unit president Sumati Mohan started banging the doors of Ms. Rajakumari’s flat.

Once she came out, the agitated women hurled invectives at her.

She brushed aside the Mahila Congress demand for an apology and reiterated her charges.

Infuriated by some utterances of Ms. Rajakumari, some Mahila Congress workers tried to attack her, but the police prevented them.

Later, the police rounded up the protesting women and took them to Humanyunagar police station. Ms. Rajakumari told reporters that the Chief Minister and his son would be solely responsible if any harm was caused to her.

Case booked

Meanwhile, the city police registered a trespassing case against Sumathi Mohan and Ganga Bhavani.

The case was booked based on a complaint lodged by Rajakumari, according to the police.
