CHENNAI: A record 1,230 law graduates were enrolled as advocates by the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
Council Chairman K. Chandramohan said even Uttar Pradesh, which had the biggest High Court in the country, did not witness such a “mela.”
Despite the ongoing court boycott by advocates, the Madras High Court premises saw a large number of new entrants, accompanied by their family and friends, going around the campus, taking photographs and congratulating one another.
Addressing the new entrants, Justice P.D. Dinakaran called them “brother members” of the judiciary and said society expected them to perform big duties.
Justice Chitra Venkataraman, whose daughter Lakshmi enrolled as an advocate, said she hailed from a family of five generations of lawyers. She said the majesty of the court and the profession attracted her to the career.
