CHENNAI: The bids for supply of 30 lakh colour TV sets for free distribution will be opened on October 15, said Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin here on Wednesday. He was participating in a function organised by Aavin to inaugurate additional cold storage facility to help augment the present capacity of 1.50 lakh litres of milk by another 50,000 litres at Madhavaram. Mr. Stalin said the Government had taken great pains to ensure total transparency in the tender and in the bid selection process for providing free colour TV sets to the people. Listing out the achievements of the State Government especially in alleviating the sufferings of the downtrodden, Mr. Stalin said several welfare measures have been proposed to be implemented at village and other semi-urban panchayats under the rural development schemes. Mr.Stalin said as many as 77 persons have been given jobs on compassionate grounds in the Aavin factory alone. The Minister released an Aavin newsletter brought out on the occasion. Minister for Dairy Development U. Mathivanan, who presided, said efforts were on to introduce pension scheme for the employees of Aavin. Minister for Fisheries K.P.P. Samy was confident that Aavin from the third position at present would soon attain the number 1 status with the help of steps taken by the State Government. Leena Nair, Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, said with the inauguration of the additional cold storage facility, the present capacity of 1.50 lakh litres a day would go up to 2 lakh litres.
