Tibetans held

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A group of Tibetans, protesting against what they called the Chinese government’s policies on religious matters, broke into the premises of Chinese Embassy at Chanakyapuri here on Wednesday. The police arrested 22 of them on charges of unlawful assembly and obstructing them from discharging their duty.

Around 10:30 a.m., the protesters appeared outside the Embassy and some of them entered the premises by scaling the walls and chained themselves to a flagpole .

They were protesting against a recent order by the Chinese government on the status of Tibetan spiritual leaders, alleging that it was an attempt to undermine the influence of the Dalai Lama.
