Navratri celebrations at Sirsi

SIRSI: A nine-day “Navratri Utsav” will be held at the Sri Marikamba temple here from Friday.

Competitions will be held for school and college students in categories such as classical music, dance, “rangavalli” drawing, essay writing, fancy dress, folk songs and handicrafts. Chess and carrom and volley ball competitions will also be held.

A “keertana” programme will be held every day by Shibha G. Naidu of Bangalore and V. Malini of Mysore. A flower exhibition too will be part of the utsav.

At the Swarnalli Math, near here, “sharannavaratri” will be held from Friday for nine days in the presence of Shri Ganagadharendra Saraswatri Swamiji.

Apart from “sree chakra” puja and Durga Puja by the seer, special pujas will also be held daily. “Keerana”, yakshagana and musical programmes will be held every day, according to a release from Shri Sarvajnendra Saraswati Prathisthanan, Sonda.
