Union Territory police stations to be automated soon

Staff Reporter

The project will ensure elimination of duplication, inconsistency in records

“Project will bring about transparency in the working of police force”

Better management: Inspector General of Police K. Kishan Kumar addressing the Commando wing of the Pondicherry Police on Thursday.

PUDUCHERRY: The police stations in the Union Territory will be soon automated under the Common Integrated Police Application project, Inspector General of Police K. Kishan Kumar said here on Thursday.

Addressing the commando wing of the territorial police, he said the work on implementing the project was fast progressing.

The project, initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs across the country, was aimed at reducing paper work in police stations.

It would eliminate duplication and inconsistency in record keeping and facilitate maintenance of crime records, he said.

Stating that the project would bring about more transparency in the working of police force, he said once the stations were automated, there would not be much chance for “tampering of records.”

“The particulars of cases registered cannot be changed or tampered with once filed,” he said.

The law and order situation in the Union Territory was satisfactory, he said.

The newly formed commando wing would be kept as a quick reaction team to meet any eventuality, he added.

A total of 60 men drawn from the police force were sent to Tamil Nadu Commando School, ‘Marutham,’ in Chennai. They underwent training for three months, he said. The commando wing was well equipped to deal with any eventuality, including terror attacks.

Among officers who attended the function were Senior Superintendent of Police (Crime and Intelligence) B. Srikanth and Superintendent of Police, Police Training School, N. T Sivadasan.
