CHANDIGARH: Welcoming the Union Government’s decision to raise the Minimum Support Price for wheat substantially and also the announcement of a bonus for farmers on procurement of paddy, the Member of Parliament from Rohtak, Deepinder Singh Hooda, has thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the unprecedented measures. In a statement issued here on Thursday, Mr. Hooda recalled that his father, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, had urged Ms. Gandhi at the Jharli rally in the State on October 7 to enhance the MSP for wheat and announce a bonus on purchase of paddy. Hitting out at the Opposition parties for describing the substantial hike in MSP as “meagre,” Mr. Hooda said it was actually the erstwhile NDA regime which used to effect “meagre” hikes in MSP.
