Crop insurance claims of 81,258 borrowers settled by NAIC ANANTAPUR: Disbursement of crop insurance claim amount to the farmers who borrowed crop loans from the District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) would commence from October 15 in its 18 branches in the district, Chairman of the bank T. Kona Reddy stated here on Thursday. Crop insurance claims of 81,258 borrowers of DCCB who suffered groundnut crop loss in kharif 2006 were settled at Rs. 55,89,42,000 by the National Agriculture Insurance Corporation, he told newspersons. The crop insurance settlement was the highest amount to be received by any DCCB in the country, he claimed. The Rs. 376 crore claims settled for the district for the kharif 2006 crop loss was highest amount to be received by any district in the country, he noted. Steps were also taken to prevent any misappropriation of the crop insurance amount and the amount would be disbursed to the beneficiary farmers only in their branch offices. About Rs. 17.25 crore was settled for 31,143 borrowers of the bank for the crop loss suffered in the 2005 kharif.
