THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Unions affiliated to the Central Industrial Trade Union in the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have announced a strike on October 16 in protest against the failure of the police in arresting those who had set on fire a bus parked overnight at Iruvaikonam, near Neyyantinkara, last month, killing the driver who was sleeping inside. The unions—Kerala State Road Transport Workers’ Federation and KSRTC Employees’ Association—organised a dharna in front of various KSRTC depots in the State on Thursday ahead of the strike. The driver, Vijayambara Raj, who was tied up in the bus before it was set on fire, sustained serious burns and died later in the hospital.
