‘Educate people on global warming’

Staff Correspondent

Manipal: Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University Rajasekharan Warrier has said that nuclear disarmament should be applicable to all countries in an equal manner.

He was speaking at the “Model United Nations” organised by the students of the Manipal Institute of Technology here on Thursday.

Dr. Warrier said that every country was bothered about its security.

India has more to worry as it has problems with almost all its neighbours.

Disarmament

Hence, disarmament cannot be dictated by powerful countries to others. “All countries should give up nuclear weapons,” he said.

There should be more awareness about global warming and climate change issues.

The United Nations should try to educate the people on these issues. There was no point in having a hypocritical attitude towards environmental issues.

Need

It was necessary for the rich countries to think of the poor’s welfare in developing countries, Dr. Warrier said.

Reforms

Institute director S.S. Pabla said that United Nations should try to reform itself to meet the challenges of the future.

Countries were arming themselves because they felt that a stronger military gives them more power, he said.

President of “Model United Nations General Assembly” Ayush Prasad was present.
