HYDERABAD: Opposition MLAs in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday expressed displeasure over the “indifference” of the officials in furnishing the required information about the number of non-local employees who are to be repatriated to their native districts. The House Committee meeting chaired by Congress member N. Uttam Kumar Reddy saw TDP, TRS, CPI and CPI (M) members lamenting the inability of the officials from the Health department, AP Genco, AP Transco and other public undertakings to place the information before the committee. Notwithstanding Opposition members’ criticism, the committee took some key decisions such as recognising as local posts all non-gazetted posts identified as per the Presidential Order and upgrading to gazetted rank. It also issued orders to implement GO 610 in public undertakings, including Singareni Collieries Company Limited, AP Transco, AP Genco and APSRTC. Local reservations would also be implemented in Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad. A majority of the 12 lakh employees, teachers and workers would now come under the purview of GO 610, Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy told reporters after the meeting. Finance Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao informed the committee that the Government had accorded approval for the creation of supernumerary posts following repatriation of non-locals. He said that in case of working spouses, both would be posted at one place. CriticismTDP member T. Devender Goud wanted the Government “to stop pretending” as if it were implementing the GO sincerely. TRS MLA T. Harish Rao was even more critical recalling the Chief Minister’s assurance to the Assembly that repatriation of non-locals would be completed by July. J. Ranga Reddy (CPI-M) and Chada Venkat Reddy (CPI) too expressed similar sentiments. Congress member D. Sambaiah, however, blamed the Opposition parties of running down the Government when it was “sincerely implementing” the GO.
