40,000 roses of different hues have gone into the depiction of ‘Nandi’

The Mysore Dasara Flower Show promises to be‘like never before’

Unique sight: The arrangement of roses depicting Nandi at the Dasara Flower Show in Curzon Park, Mysore.

MYSORE: Want to soak in the beauty of flowers in all their hues, then head to Curzon Park, adjacent to Mysore Palace, the venue of the Dasara Flower Show. According to officials, it promises to be a “show like never before”. Tourists, who after experiencing the enchanting illumination at Mysore Palace, can see a wide variety of flowers planted in over 35,000 pots arranged aesthetically at the park.

The most exciting part of this year’s show is undoubtedly a special flower arrangement depicting Nandi (bull). A whopping 40,000 roses of different hues have been used for its creation by flower decorator M. Kalidasa.

He had created the world’s wonder Taj Mahal in flowers at the recent Lalbagh Flower Show in Bangalore, which evoked wide acclaim.

“Nandi is the symbol of Mysore’s heritage, so we thought of offering something special for the tourists and visitors at the show,” horticulture officials told The Hindu.

Must-see

The show is jointly organised by the Department of Horticulture and Mysore District Horticultural Society.

Not just the ‘Nandi’, a horse-drawn cart (tonga) made from a variety of flowers, various types of flower decorations, special arrangement of Lotus flowers are some of the must-see exhibits at the show.

Competition

This year, too, a competition has been organised for the public and organisations. Exhibits of flowering and ornamental plants at their gardens will be judged and the best exhibit would be adjudged with a prize.

In addition to the display of carefully-nurtured flowering plants of the Horticulture Department, individuals, educational institutions, government offices, industrial houses, hotels, police stations and Central Government offices can also exhibit at the show.

Contests have been arranged in Bonsai, Ikebana, flower arrangement as per the Indian tradition and making rongolis from flowers. They will begin at the park every day at 10 a.m.

For the first time, the best varieties of horticultural plants would be displayed to create awareness on the importance of growing such plants.

The Glass House at the park will display an arrangement of ornamental plants and Ikebana.

It will have a special arrangement of flowers collected from Ooty and Brindavan Gardens at KRS Dam.

Flowers arranged in Japanese style, flower rangoli, vegetable carving were some of the other attractions at the show.

Since the Dasara Flower Show is fast emerging as a popular event and has been drawing visitors from different districts, the organisers of the event are doing everything to make it attractive and unique this year.
