Letters to the Editor
Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s recent remark in Haryana that those who are opposed to the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal are against progress and development is irrational and is not in keeping with her stature. She heads the party that leads the coalition government at the Centre with support from the Left parties. And she is well aware that the government will collapse the moment they withdraw support. Let us hope such a situation will not arise. T. Radhakrishna Menon, Palakkad One fails to understand why a single issue should be such a big hurdle to the continuation of the UPA-Left cooperation. They can arrive at an understanding to get on with other important issues that confront the nation. The ‘go slow’ on operationalising the nuclear deal is one option. But this would mean derailing a good agreement arrived at after detailed talks. The fear that we will move closer to the U.S. in other matters too is misplaced. Ours is the world’s largest democracy with a strong economy poised for further growth. D.B.N. Murthy, Bangalore
