Ramesh slams century; Neelambal triumphs

Salem: Neelambal registered a 93-run win over Pavadi Municipal Boys HSS to emerge champion of the TNCA-Boost Cup under-17 inter schools cricket tournament at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium here on Thursday.

Batting first, Neelambal, riding on Ramesh Kumar’s century knock, posted 249 in 35 overs. In reply, Pavadi failed to rise to the occasion and ended up scoring 156 for six.

The scores (final):

Neelambal HSS 249 in 35 overs (A. Ramesh Kumar 111) bt Pavadi Municipal BHSS 156 for six in 35 overs (Venkatapathy 64 not out, R. Srinivasan four for 20).

Dheenadayalan excels

At Coimbatore, right-arm fast bowler Dheenadayalan (five for 8, including a hat-trick) sparkled in Vellakinar GHSS’s 190-run win over Visveswara MHSS in the TNCA-Boost Cup under-17 inter schools cricket tournament at the SNR Sons grounds on Thursday.

The scores:

Vellakinar GHSS 217 for five in 30 overs (Arul Kumar 50) bt Visveswara MHSS 27 in 12.4 overs (Dheendayalan five for 8, Arun Kumar three for 9).

Satchidananda Jothi Niketan MHSS 155 in 26 overs (Abhinesh four for 20) lost to Sri Jayendra Saraswathi MHSS 156 for two in 26 overs (R. Arun Balaji 86).

Mani HSS 150 for six in 30 overs (Sakthi Vignesh 43) bt Immaculate Heart of Mary MHSS 24 in 11.3 overs.

Parks MHSS (Tirupur) 105 in 23.1 overs (Pratheesh 48, Kishore four for 27) lost to Trinity MHSS 109 for seven in 16.1 overs (Prakash four for 16).

Big win for HPF SC

At Udhagamandalam, HPF Sports Club notched up a 6-1 win over BMSC in the NDFA-Sterling Biotech first division football league at the HADP Open Air Stadium on Thursday.

The results:

Nethaji SC 2 (Antony Nilish, Yadava Raj) bt Hero’s FC 0; HPF SC 6 (John Sebastian 3, John Martin 2, Kumar) bt BMSC 1 (Vijayakumar).

St. Joseph’s wins

St. Joseph’s (Coonoor) defeated Laidlaw Memorial School by 24 runs in the NDCA under-17 inter schools cricket tournament for the Azhar Hassan Memorial Rolling Trophy at the Laidlaw grounds on Thursday.

The scores:

St. Joseph’s (Coonoor) 134 (Nitin Suresh 46, Dean B. Wheately four for 16) bt Laidlaw MS 110 (Maria Prakash four for 8).

Swimming meet

The Madurai District Swimming Children Welfare Association will conduct a State-level swimming meet for under-17 boys and girls at the MGR Race Course Stadium swimming pool, Madurai on October 14.
