Chennai: USA-2 is ahead of Indonesia by 16 IMPs in the Seniors Bowl and USA-1 leads Germany by 31 IMPs in the Venice Cup in the finals of the World bridge championships being played in Shanghai. In the Seniors Bowl final, USA-2 had a carry over of one IMP, gained two more in the first segment, a further two in the second and another eleven in the third against Indonesia to lead 98-82. In the Venice Cup finals, although Germany had taken a lead of 23 IMPs at the end of the first segment, USA-1 came back strongly in the next two segments to wipe off the deficit and take a 98-66.60 lead. In the Bermuda Bowl finals, Norway leads USA-1 117-108.50. Texan Aces faltersIn the transnational team event, Texan Aces (Gopal Venkatesh, Jyotindra Shah, Padmanabhan Sridharan, Badal Chandra Das, Sumit Mukherjee and Wayne Stuart) was in the 13th place in a field of 147 teams, with a score of 207 VPs at the end of 12 Swiss league rounds. The Indian team beat a strong Chinese team, Zuomencheng, 20-10 in the 13th round to occupy the seventh position. In the 14th round, they drew with Zimmerman to occupy the sixth position. In the 15th round, the ‘Texans’ lost to a strong Russo-Polish team, the toppers in the field, and could not qualify for the last eight.
