Bangalore: Governor Rameshwar Thakur will create a record of sorts when on Friday he occupies his new office in the chamber normally set apart for the Chief Minister in the Vidhana Soudha. He will be one among the very few Governors to administer the State from the headquarters of the Secretariat. Previous Governors who administered the state during President’s Rule functioned from the Raj Bhavan. Former Governors such as the late Dharma Vira and the late P. Venkatasubbaiah did hold routine meetings with officials during President’s Rule, but they functioned from the Raj Bhavan. Mr. Thakur, however, has planned a fixed working schedule from his office in the Vidhana Soudha.
Mr. Thakur prefers to function from the Vidhana Soudha to have a direct feel of administration. He will have his first meeting with all the top officials of the Government at 10 a.m. on Friday. He will be meeting the general public on alternate days between 12.30 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. and will be at the Vidhana Soudha office on all days between 10.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. The post of Secretary to the Governor has been vacant for nearly six months. Syed Zamir Pasha, Principal Secretary to Government, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, told The Hindu that the Governor would function from the Chief Minister’s office on the third floor of the Vidhana Soudha.
