Station’s second entry to be improved

Rs.50-lakh work on Kallukuzhi side to be completed before end of financial year

Board has sanctioned unreserved ticketing system in 107 more stations in Tiruchi division
Tenders have been floated for the works

TIRUCHI: With passenger amenity works apace in the main entry of Tiruchi Railway Junction, Divisional Railway authorities will soon embark on improvement of its second entry.

Improvements on Kallukuzhi side of the station will be carried out at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh. Tenders have been floated for the work to be completed before the end of current financial year.

Widening of approach road, landscaping, provision of modern lighting, fountains and a four-wheeler parking lot are planned for the second entry.

With this, Railway authorities here hoped, the main entry would get decongested.

Passenger amenity work such as improvements to the circulating area, development of surface on platforms 2, 3, 4 and 5, provision of stainless steel chairs and parking lot for autorickshaws, taxis and cars were in full swing on an outlay of Rs. 5 crore.

The VIP lounge and five retiring rooms have been renovated.

Twenty ticket vending machines will be installed of which some will be on the Kallukuzhi side. The Railway Board has sanctioned unreserved ticketing system (UTS) facility in 107 more railway stations in Tiruchi division. This facility is available in 11 stations now.

Touch screens

Twenty six touch screens and 42 plasma screens will be installed in Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Vriddhachalam and Puducherry railway stations, they added.
