PATNA: Nationalist Congress Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal chiefs Sharad Pawar and Lalu Prasad on Thursday asserted here that there was no threat to the United Progressive Alliance government.
The two had come to attend their party functions. The Union Ministers, who are members of the UPA-Left committee on the nuclear deal with the United States, were confident that the Left parties’ “concerns” would be addressed to their satisfaction.
Mr. Pawar said the discussions in the four meetings of the committee were good and he was confident that both sides would resolve the matter amicably. The issue would not impact the stability of the UPA government.
He described as poor prophecy the observation of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani that there would be a snap poll in the first half of 2008.
Mr. Prasad said there was no remote chance of a mid-term poll, as talks with the Left were under way in the most cordial and amicable manner. The nuclear deal was for better power generation.
