Colourful rally marks World Sight Day

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A colourful rally marked the World Sight Day celebrations in the city on Thursday. Organised by the Vasan Eye Care Hospital, the rally was aimed at creating awareness about the need to maintain proper eyesight.

Theme

The theme of this year’s World Sight Day is ‘Vision for Children.’ World Sight Day is observed by the World Health Organisation on October 11 to highlight problems leading to loss of eyesight.

Chairman of the city Corporation’s standing committee on Town Planning R. Satheesh Kumar flagged off the rally from the Museum Square. Vasan Eye Care Centre head U.S. Binoy and marketing manager V.L. Pradeepkumar were present on the occasion.

Vehicles bearing messages on the need to preserve eyesight in children participated in the rally. Mounted police escorted the procession which wound up at Gandhi Park, East Fort.
