Doctor ends life in her hospital Crime notes

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Radhika Ramakrishna (50), Medical Superintendent of ESI Hospital, Indiranagar, committed suicide by injecting herself with some drugs at the hospital premises on Wednesday. The death came to light only on Thursday.

Dr. Radhika came to the hospital on Wednesday morning, but very few people, except the security personnel, noticed her arrival, the police said.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ulsoor Sub Division) N. Nagaraj, although her son came looking for her in the evening, he returned on not finding her.

Mr. Nagaraj said the superintendent must have gone to the resting room on the second floor whereas her official chamber was on the first floor.

The resting room had two doors, one on the main corridor, which was usually locked from the outside, and the other from the rear side. She must have entered the rest room from the latter door and the two doors were locked from inside, he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Radhika’s husband Ramakrishna, an assistant executive engineer with BESCOM, approached Madivala police on Wednesday night and told them that his wife had not returned from the hospital. He did not lodge any complaint.

The couple were residents of Bommanahalli. The couple had got their daughter married and their son was studying BBM in the city.

Ramakrishna and his son came to the hospital again on Thursday looking for her. The staff then broke open the door of the resting room to see Dr. Radhika dead in her cot, the police said.

A syringe, a vial and a suicide note lay on the table. In the note, Dr. Radhika had reportedly written she was under stress and was committing suicide.

Dr. Radhika had been with the ESI for over 15 years and was promoted as Medical Superintendent six months ago, the police said. She is survived by a daughter and a son. The Indiranagar police registered a case of suicide and sent the body for post-mortem.
