TIRUPUR: Coimbatore Collector Neeraj Mittal on Thursday paid a surprise visit to Samundipuram Panchayat Union Middle School in Velampalayam Municipality limits.Mr. Mittal ordered immediate closure of the road in front of the school for traffic from Samundipuram Main Road to ensure the safety of 350 children studying at the school.
“This will not affect people, as there are alternative roads for them to use. The students can use the road safely,” said Mr. Mittal.
Velampalayam Municipality officials cleared the bushes and removed the garbage on the campus immediately. A toilet, constructed by Rotarians, which is remaining closed because of lack of water supply, will get water supply in a day or two, officials said. Mr. Mittal the ordered supply of drinking water to the school.
As a long-term solution, shifting of the school to another premise at E.B. Colony, which is two km away, Mr. Mittal said.
R. Nagaraj, councillor, who contributed Rs. 4 lakh to construct additional classrooms at E.B. Colony School, said that was the only permanent solution as land is not available at Samundipuram.Construction of additional classrooms at E.B. Colony should be taken up immediately, he said.
