Over 12,000 litres of rectified spirit seized

The police were conducting vehicular checks at Samanthipuram


KANCHEEPURAM: The Madurantakam Prohibition Enforcement Wing personnel have seized 12,355 liters of rectified spirit from two lorries at Samanthipuram near Cheyyur on Wednesday .

According to informed sources, Superintendent of Police K. Priaiya received information over phone that the rectified spirit would be reaching Samanthipuram on Wednesday night.

In turn, the SP alerted the PEW personnel and deputed a special party to assist them. They conducted vehicular checks at Samanthipuram. At around 8 p.m., a couple of lorries approached the place.

However, on seeing the police personnel, the drivers fled.

A search revealed 353 cans (each 35-litres) of rectified spirit worth around Rs. 3,00,000, the police said.
