Revamp education system: Ramadoss

Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM: Education system should be revamped to suit the job market. In this context, the introduction of uniform education system assumes significance, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss has said.

He was addressing a press conference at Thailapuram on Thursday. The number of candidates seeking employment was burgeoning in Tamil Nadu every year. At present, names of 48.04 lakh candidates are found in the registers of employment exchanges.

But on an average, only 14,000 to 15,000 candidates were getting jobs every year. At this rate, it would take several decades to get jobs for everybody in the list. It was claimed that investment in the private sector had increased manifold, new industries set up and the industry had recorded significant growth. But these had created only white-collar jobs while aspirants for blue-collar jobs were left in the lurch. The white-collar jobs went to only to a small section of society.

Quoting statistics of the National Sample Survey Organisation, Dr. Ramadoss said the percentage of candidates belonging to Other Backward Class and the SCs/STs landing up in managerial posts and posts of chief executives officers was 4.4 per though they constituted 80 per cent of the population.

This indicated that the present education system did not suit the job market.
