Delhi Court comes down on Blueline operators
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Tightening the noose around the capital’s wayward Blueline bus operators, the Delhi High Court on Thursday took into its own hands the power to release buses involved in fatal accidents even as it directed the Delhi government to institute an enquiry into reported subletting of these buses by their owners.
A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Mukul Mudgal and Justice Reva Khetrapal said that from now on metropolitan magistrates would forward all cases of impounded buses involved in fatal accidents to the High Court, which would then decide whether to release them or not. So far, the metropolitan magistrates were empowered to release these buses on “superdari”.
Besides, the Court would also announce an interim relief in cash for the families of those killed in Blueline accidents, the Bench said.
However, the Bench did not pull up the Delhi government and the Delhi police for failing to submit the names of politicians and police officers who own Blueline buses.
It gave them further time till November 15, the next date of hearing, to inform the Court about the ownership of these buses.
The Bench had on October 8 asked the government and the police to file affidavits stating the names of politicians and police officers who own Blueline buses.
