CHENNAI: UAE-based Tecton Engineering & Construction LLC is keen to enter the Indian market in the field of water projects and desalination plants through local joint ventures and its own entity. The company is owned and managed by S. Lakshmanan, M. M. M. Sheriff and P. Mohamed Ali (Managing Director of Oman-based Galfar Engineering & Contracting LLC). S. Lakshmanan, Managing Director, Tecton, said in a release that the company and its partner, Austria-based Aqua Engineering GmbH, recently bagged a contract worth Rs. 500 crore for the construction of a 20-MIGD (million imperial gallons a day) sea water reverse osmosis desalination plant (I phase), on turnkey basis, from the State-owned Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority. Desalination by reverse osmosis was becoming popular globally and in the Gulf region because of its reliability and lower production costs, Mr. Lakshmanan said. He said the consortium had constructed and supplied many desalination plants on turnkey basis to State-owned companies such as Abu Dhabi Electricity & Water Authority and the Federal Electricity & Water Authority. The firm recently completed one desalination plant in Qidfa (Emirate of Fujairah), and a similar project was nearing completion in the Emirate of Ajman, Mr. Lakshmanan said.
