PUDUCHERRY: Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Mukut Mithi and Chief Minister N.Rangasamy have greeted people on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr. Mr. Mithi said, “On this occasion, I extend my hearty greetings and best wishes to the people of the Puducherry and may the festival continue to further strengthen the goodwill and brotherhood…” “Ramzan is the holy month for the followers of Islam. Fasting is observed during this month to help a person come closer to God. It also teaches self-restraint and discipline. The festival of ‘breaking the fast’ celebrated after the holy month is an occasion for general expression of goodwill and friendship,” he added. Mr. Rangasamy said Ramzan highlighted the importance of charity and helped to promote communal harmony and national integration. Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president P. Shanmugam, secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam A. Anbalagan and Pattali Makkal Katchi leader M. Ramadass also greeted people. The Puducherry unit of the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath said in a release that arrangements have been made for special prayers in Gandhi Square.
