BIDAR: Small and marginal farmers in the district will get a 50 per cent subsidy on seeds for rabi cultivation. Officials of the Agriculture Department told The Hindu here on Friday that seeds would be distributed to farmers in the next few days. Farmers could purchase Bengal gram, wheat, sunflower, safflower and jowar seeds on subsidy. The officials said that 3,050 quintals of Bengal gram, 200 quintals of rabi jowar, 150 quintals of wheat, 125 quintals of safflower and 25 quintals of sunflower seeds had been sent to the district for distribution among farmers through raitha samparka kendras. Supply of seedsThe task of supplying seeds had been given to the Karnataka State Seeds Corporation, Karnataka Oil Seeds Federation and Amareshwar Agri-Tech, Hyderabad, the officials said. Bengal gramThey said that Bengal gram would be grown in 52,000 hectares of land, jowar in 30,000 hectares, wheat in 8,000 hectares, safflower in 10,000 hectares and sunflower in 6,500 hectares. A team comprising agriculture officers and scientists would tour villages to monitor pests and diseases in tur dal, red gram and other rabi crops, from October 19. ProblemsFarmers had been urged to consult the officials of the department if they faced problems relating to sowing or pest control, the officials said.
