BELLARY: “Vishal Vidyarthi Sangam”, a students rally, was organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at the BDAA grounds here on Friday to mark the completion of 150 years of the launch of the freedom struggle and the birth centenary celebrations of Bhagat Singh. Pompanagowd, president of the Veerashaiva Vidyavardhak Sangha, which runs a chain of educational institutions in the district, inaugurated the event. Addressing students here on Friday, Chakravarthi Soolibele of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) expressed concern over the lack of patriotism among the youth and recalled the contribution and sacrifices of many a freedom fighter during the struggle. He said if the present trend were to continue, “foreign rule” would become a reality, referring to the increasing impact of globalisation. Raghavalu, organising secretary of the ABVP in Andhra Pradesh, while describing the heroic deeds of Bhagat Singh and his contribution to the freedom movement, stressed the need for sacrifice. CondemnedHe also condemned the use of violence by naxalites. Harikumar, Principal of Wardlaw Junior College and chairman of the reception committee; Yeshwant Bhupal, principal of Bellary Engineering College; and Prabhudev Kappagal, secretary of the ABVP State unit, participated. . ProcessionEarlier, a colourful procession carrying the portraits of various freedom fighters was taken out in the main streets of the city.
