Two farmers were allegedly killed by landlord Seetaram Gouda Witnesses told to be firm while ensuring justice BELLARY: The district unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) organised Martyrs’ Day at Hulikunti village in Kudligi taluk of Bellary district on Friday to mark the first anniversary of the killing of two farmers last year. Speaking after inaugurating a memorial in the village, Siddanagowda, secretary of the State unit of the CPI, expressing concern over the continuation of the landlord menace and bonded labour, called upon the people to organise themselves and fight for their rights. A.R.M. Ismail, secretary of the district unit of the party, while recalling the killing of Obleshappa and Panduranga, members of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), allegedly by landlord and advocate Seetaram Gouda, said if it had not been for the struggle waged by members of the AIKS, the accused would not have been imprisoned. ‘Be firm’Appealing to witnesses to be firm in their conviction to ensure that the accused were punished, he complimented the police for arresting all of them despite pressure from various quarters. K.B. Shivashankar, who spearheaded an agitation demanding the arrest of the accused, presided over the function. Boraiah, H. Veeranna, Y. Mallikarjun, Shekar Babu, Manjamma Tippakka and Chennavva participated in the programme.
